Meet Robby, one of my all time favorite "success" stories. Robby ran an extremely successful white collar business for years. He left his business, and moved to the hillside in the shadow of the HOLLYWOOD sign.  Just one step inside his amazing house, you have been instantly whisked away into a gallery of color and magic and artistic imagination beyond compare.  Robby is truly living his dream like no other I have ever met. We should all be so lucky. Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Ok, so the Bette Davis quote from All About Eve is actually "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night" but all of us at Penny and Pig are in for a bumpy roller coaster of a ride for February and we can't wait!

For the weekend of the 13th we will be doing one of our favorite kinds of sales. We call these Picker's Paradise Sales. LOTS and LOTS of boxes in the house and garage for you to dig through and discover. We have ONE DAY only, not a ton of prep time and we have to clear it to the walls so bring your pick up truck, boxes and let's get digging!

February 19 and 20 find us in Santa Monica in the home of a former comedy writer from the golden age. Here you will find sheet music, books, pretty antique furniture, home decor items, yard and garage finds and more. Check back with us on the evening of February 15 for our photos. 

Can't wait to see all of our fun doll folks on February 25-27. This two story home in a historic section of Pasadena is FILLED (and we mean FILLED) with dolls, doll clothes, doll furniture, doll supplies, doll houses, doll EVERYTHING!  Plus there are just some nice pieces in this home you won't want to miss.

(here's the boring part....) No purses, wallets only. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed, no exceptions. No Big Gulps or Slurpees - seriously! We do not have public bathrooms. Please bring someone to help you load. We accept credit cards and Paypal, charge tax and give you a receipt.

The Serendipity Sale

I grew up in a house that my grandfather built.  There was a rock fireplace where we sat for family photos, the Easter bunny left baskets for us on the ledge, and my mom (she's 88!) still keeps her favorite things nestled on the stone shelves.  That's it there, on the right. On the left is the fireplace of the house we just finished.  Same 8 inch pine paneling, same harvest gold wall to wall carpeting, same cut river rock fireplace.  All week long I felt like I was at home.  The family we worked for was lovely, and our customers in Torrance are awesome! How lucky we are to do the thing we love the most, with amazing folks all around us. Look for us in Santa Monica, West Covina, and Pasadena in February. It's going to be a barn burner of a month. Can't wait!!!

Just a few of the items from our funky and fun sale in Torrance this weekend. We have an acupressure bed (so cool!) a groovy mid century bedroom set in amazing condition, a lPioneer aser disc karaoke machine, fabric, 60s pendant lamp and a tension pole lamp, oooh ahhhh.   Lots of little 60s smalls for you MCM collectors! This is what we do. I am always very proud of our friendly sales team, our ace appraisal department, and the team's attention to detail, but this week I am very grateful to the crew who makes magic happen with their "We've got this!" attitude. Overlooking the 101 freeway at the Barham exit while putting up signs at 5 am. I was able to take a minute to remember how thankful I am to have a job I love so much.  Our crew is the best, hardworking, trustworthy, knowledgeable, friendly and just fun to be around. Thank you Jane, Claudia, Luis, Danny, Louis and Calvin for a crazy long November! We have the most awesome clients that invite us into their homes, and fantastic customers that we love seeing each week at our sales. NOV 20-21 Mid Century Modern & Art Collectibles in Lake Hollywood!

This sale is groovy in every sense of the word.  In the shadow of Lake Hollywood you will find us in this very mod mid-century home.  Our owner collected and had stunning taste.  The photos you are seeing are just the beginning of a really gorgeous sale and we will post more photos Monday night after we start our discovery.  A few of the many treasures include a huge selection of gorgeous pots for outdoor planting, art glass in every color and style, artist originals in several media, (prints, sculptures, glass and more) some pretty silver jewelry, some furniture in excellent condition, gobs of gift wrapping, cookbooks, gourmet kitchen cookware and supplies, 2 fantastic matching tableau flat files, records, and tools.  You really should not miss this one.

Things you should know before venturing out - no handbags - wallets only. Please leave them at home. No one under the age of 18 will be permitted inside.  There is a VERY VERY steep driveway you will need to walk up to enter the sale, and then a full stair case that leads to the main property. This property is not wheelchair/walker accessible. Please bear that in mind.  We accept credit cards, paypal and cash, no personal checks.

This house is gorgeous and so is everything in it!  Everything goes from a fab glass top dining table and chairs, four poster girly bed, tools, clothes, high end household items, lots of pretty small pots for planting and plants, and more. Check back Wednesday evening for more great photos.

Home Decor GALORE, and More! Highland Park Fri and Sat

This weekend we are super close to Pasadena and Eagle Rock, tucked just off Avenue 64 between the 210 and the 110 freeways in a quaint part of Highland Park.  LOTS and LOTS of nice newer home decor. There's a handful of vintage items, not a ton, and a whole lot of records. (Though they are Herb Alpert and Perry Como, not Sex Pistols and The Beatles.) Clothing from ladies size 10 and some nice Women's size clothing. Linens, towels, china, dishes, pots and pans, holiday and Christmas decorations. SO MUCH Christmas decor! Everything is sparkling clean and ready to use. If you are redecorating your home, setting up a college dorm room, or looking for some nice decor items for you clients, this is the sale for you.  Friday 9-1   Saturday 8-2.

There are two kinds of folks, those who collect, and those who do not.  Bob collects.  His office is a treasure trove of kitschy iconic advertising, cartoon collectibles, tiny toys, sports memorabilia history, and then some.  If you are one of the chosen, and get to have a glimpse of this collecting wonderland, your eyes begin dancing around the room at record speeds just to take it all in. You can't, so don't even try.  Bob is one of my favorite people, ever, and was just recently blessed with his first grandchild. Can you IMAGINE going to Grandpa's office to play?  I can, and it's magical.

It isn't the end of the year, so there is still time to add to our amazing client list, but I wanted to take a minute to thank the other half of the folks that make us who we are.  We have been more than blessed to work for some really great clients. This year we helped two brothers that we loved working with. At the end of the sale one said "I wish we had more dead parents so we could work together again."  I loved when one of our clients asked if we have our own show yet.  Maybe one day! One client called us "Effing-tornados."  It was one of my all time fav compliments.  So for Karen, Carleen. BranDee, Janice, Stephen and Chris, Michael and Kay, Susan, Desiree, Lisa, Beth, Samantha and the long list of fantastic clients we have had the pleasure to work for this year, THANK YOU.

How lucky I am to live and work in an historic part of California. This week we have had a wonderful client and a great group of shoppers.  I enjoyed chatting today with some of our customers about the rise and fall of collectible cameras, an Ansel Adams college course and Canon vs. Nikon vs. Olympus.  Today's favorite customer was the gal that brought her own polaroid film to try out one of the cameras we had for sale. As the Wizard of Oz said "very resourceful!"
